Scott D. Feringa is a senior litigation attorney and is a member of the Management Committee of the firm. For the past thirty-three years, he has represented hospital systems, physicians, dentists, and other health care professionals in medical malpractice actions. He also represents foreign and domestic manufacturers in sophisticated products liability actions, including national medical products liability claims and serves as national trial counsel for several manufacturers, distributors and retailers of consumer products in the United States. He is also involved in fire and explosion litigation on behalf of product manufacturers and utilities on a national basis. Further, he represents ski and golf resorts in personal injury litigation as well.
Scott is a member of the American Bar Association, including a number of its sections, the Michigan Bar Association and its Health Care Law Section, the Michigan Society of Healthcare attorneys, the Oakland Bar Association and the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. He has also been elected a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, attaining the rank of Associate. Additionally, he is a member of the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys, having served as its President and, periodically, as a member of its Board of Directors. From Martindale-Hubbell, he has received the highest AV ranking which, according to Martindale-Hubbell, indicates a very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the Bar.
Scott Feringa has been named as a Michigan Super Lawyer since 2006. The Super Lawyer selection process includes peer nominations, a blue ribbon panel review and independent research. Only the top 5% of the attorneys in Michigan are eligible for consideration.
Scott Feringa was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2011 in the field of medical malpractice and product liability litigation. Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which more than 39,000 leading attorneys cast almost 3.1 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers "the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice." (Copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, S.C.).
Scott is a regular speaker at national and regional symposiums in various subject matters, including health care law, products liability and ski area litigation.
Scott's outside interests include skiing, sailing and fly fishing.
